16 - 19 Tuition Fund
Amount awarded: £720
How the funding has been used
Two approaches have been used:
- a) by allocating each A-level subject taught an additional lesson per fortnight to enable teachers to work more closely with individual pupils, throughout the teaching of the course.
- b) targeted intervention by the study skills manager, to work with individuals to develop their study skills, time management and organisational skills to enable them to maintain their progress
Both approaches have been used face to face during the Autumn term of 2020-21 and continue during the lockdown in the Spring term of 2021.
The sizes of the groups vary according to need and range from 121 support to groups of 20+.
The students are selected for support by subject teachers as a result of assessment of the work that they have submitted, and for support from the study skills manager, through referrals from academic staff in our school data base, where concerns about progress have been identified. This is a blended approach of planned intervention based on prior attainment, and reactive intervention based on referrals from teaching staff.
How will these approaches be evaluated
This is done through the school’s progress review weeks in which subject staff submit progress data, and through Support and Challenge meetings, held with each faculty leader and the Head of Sixth Form. Both methodologies result in accountability actions for staff to ensure that interventions are responsive to the needs of pupils; they are carried out throughout the course, in accordance with the school calendar.
